HDMI cables
HDMI Explained:
HDMI Cables are the current standard for transmitting uncompressed digital data to a wide variety of electronic devices including HDTV’s, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, AV receivers, computer monitors and more.
HDMI cables support both video and audio to be sent over a single cable which helps to greatly reduce clutter behind the entertainment center and make it much easier to set up your own home theater system.
HDMI Cable Length:
You can buy HDMI cables in almost any size; however, the most common length is 6 feet. There is technically no limit to how long an HDMI cable can be, but the longer they are the higher quality cable you need. So if you’re looking at something above 10 feet, I would recommend Monster Cables. You can browse HDMI cables by length here.
HDMI Versions:
What many people aren’t aware of is that HDMI cables are constantly changing. There have been four major versions of HDMI cables: 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and most recently 1.4. Among all of these versions there are also several additional revisions i.e. 1.1a, 1.2a, 1.3a, 1.3b, 1.3b1 so it’s important to find out which version of HDMI cable it is you want to buy before you do.
My Current Favorite:
AmazonBasics HDMI Cables 6.5 Feet for $6.99 or 9.5 Feet for $7.99.
Future of HDMI:
HDMI will continue to adapt and change to new standards of video, and now you can even get Wireless HDMI devices as well. The primary change will be increased video resolution and features (i.e. 3D TV).
